George Basset

George Basset(t) (c.1524-c.80), of Tehidy, near Redruth, Cornwall, was an English politician.

Bassett was the son of John Bassett and Honor Grenville, sister of Sir Richard Grenville the Elder (d.1550). His stepfather was Arthur Plantagenet, Viscount Lisle, an illegitimate son of Edward IV of England and thus the uncle of King Henry VIII. His sisters were Katharine Bassett and Anne Bassett, allegedly a mistress of Henry VIII and considered as a possible sixth wife for the King.〔''The Mistresses of Henry VIII'', Kelly Hart, p.197, The History Press, Stroud, GLucestersahire, England〕 Cousin of Sir Richard Grenville the younger, via his mother, Honor, Grenville's Aunt. His brother was James Bassett, also an MP.
Bassett had a son named James, aged c.15 when Bassett died c.1580.
